Broadway compared with the 1980 film
Jane Fonda played Judy in the 1980 film, which began when Fonda's production company, IPC Films, set out to make a picture with multiple female leads. Stephanie J. Block originated the role on Broadway in 2009, and Amber Davies played her in the 2019 West End production.
The biggest stage addition is Judy's showstopper, Get Out and Stay Out. In the musical, her ex-husband Dick, dumped by the secretary he left her for, turns up and asks her to take him back, and Judy orders him to leave. The film ends her story differently, with a postscript saying Judy marries the Xerox representative. Both versions start her as a divorced housewife on her first job.
