Michael Jackson

Who is Michael Jackson?

In MJ the Musical, Michael Jackson is shown in 1992, driving his team through exhausting rehearsals for an upcoming tour while an MTV documentary crew presses him with questions about his past. Perfectionist and guarded, he pushes himself and everyone around him toward an almost impossible standard, even as flashbacks reveal the demanding childhood and complicated family relationships that shaped him.

The show treats him primarily as a working artist rather than a tabloid figure, focused on his creative process, his relationship with his father Joe, and the toll of decades spent under constant public scrutiny.

Michael Jackson's role in MJ the Musical

Michael Jackson is the lead role and the most demanding in the show, requiring a performer who can sing, dance, and physically embody Jackson's signature movement across decades of his career. Myles Frost originated the role on Broadway, winning the 2022 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for a performance built on exhaustive vocal and choreographic precision.

Audiences remember the role for its sheer physical demands and for the way it recreates Jackson's iconic stagecraft live, turning numbers like Smooth Criminal and Billie Jean into some of the show's biggest spectacles.
