Who is Sally Durant Plummer?

Sally is unhappily married to traveling salesman Buddy Plummer but has never let go of her feelings for Ben Stone, the man she loved decades earlier when they were all young performers together. The reunion party at the doomed Weismann Theatre brings Sally and Ben back into each other's orbit for one charged evening.

As the night wears on, Sally's grip on the present slips, and her romantic fantasies about reclaiming her youth and her old love become increasingly fragile and self-deluding, culminating in one of the show's most emotionally raw moments.

Sally's role in Follies

Sally is a lead role and delivers Losing My Mind, one of the score's most demanding torch songs, a portrait of obsessive love stripped of any polish or restraint. The role requires vocal control paired with genuine, unguarded emotional exposure.

Sally was originated by Dorothy Collins in the 1971 Broadway production and has since been played by acclaimed performers including Bernadette Peters in the large scale 2011 Broadway revival, each bringing a different balance of fragility and desperation to the part.
