Broadway compared with the 1934 film and 1982 TV film
Leslie Howard's Percy in the 1934 film is often regarded as the definitive screen version, while Anthony Andrews played him in the 1982 TV film opposite Jane Seymour and Ian McKellen. On Broadway, Douglas Sills created the role in 1997 and earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.
The character is the same double man in every version: an English aristocrat who plays an ineffectual dandy in society while secretly rescuing French nobles from the guillotine.
