Sky loses his big stage ballads on screen: the 1955 film cut I've Never Been in Love Before and My Time of Day, and Frank Loesser wrote a new song for Sky and Sarah, A Woman in Love. Marlon Brando played Sky and sang his own numbers without a dubbing singer. Frank Sinatra had wanted the role himself and was cast as Nathan Detroit instead, and his relations with Brando were strained. Loesser reportedly died in 1969 still refusing to watch the film.
Robert Alda originated Sky on Broadway in 1950, and Ewan McGregor played him in London's 2005 revival.
