Who is Anita?

Anita is part of the Sharks' inner circle, dating the gang's leader Bernardo and serving as confidante to Maria, the show's heroine. She is worldly, sharp-tongued, and proud of her identity as a young Puerto Rican woman navigating a new life in New York City, and she often acts as the voice of reason and hard-won experience against Maria's youthful idealism.
