Who is Tony?

Tony has stepped back from the Jets, the street gang he co-founded, and is trying to imagine a different future for himself when he meets Maria at a neighborhood dance. Their connection is immediate and idealistic, and it sets the entire tragedy of the show in motion as tensions between the Jets and the Sharks escalate around them.
