Barnaby Tucker, the younger of Horace Vandergelder's two clerks, was originated on Broadway by Jerry Dodge in 1964 and played by Danny Lockin in the 1969 film. Taylor Trensch played him in the 2017 Broadway revival with Bette Midler.
Barnaby's music makes the move to film largely intact. On stage he joins Cornelius in Put On Your Sunday Clothes, dances with Minnie Fay in Dancing and the Polka Contest, and sings Elegance with Cornelius, Irene, and Minnie, and Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Dancing, and Elegance all appear in the film.
