Claire

Who is Claire?

Claire is a helper robot living near Oliver in a near future Seoul apartment building, more guarded and independent than her neighbor after being abandoned by her own former owner. She initially approaches Oliver out of simple practical need, borrowing his charger, but their interactions slowly turn into a real friendship neither of them expected to want.

More skeptical than Oliver about the idea of lasting connection, Claire has to work through her own defenses as their bond deepens during a journey to find fireflies together. Her arc mirrors Oliver's in reverse, moving from self protective distance toward the willingness to be vulnerable with someone again.

Claire's role in Maybe Happy Ending

Claire is a lead role and the other half of the show's central pairing, requiring a performer with both sharp comic instincts and the emotional range to soften convincingly over the course of the story. Her numbers often carry a wry, guarded energy that opens up as the show progresses.

Helen J Shen originated the role on Broadway when Maybe Happy Ending opened in 2024. Audiences remember Claire as a refreshingly prickly romantic lead, a character whose gradual thaw gives the show much of its emotional payoff.
