Who is Jeremy Heere?
Jeremy Heere is an awkward, socially anxious high schooler desperate to fit in and to win the attention of his crush, Christine Canigula. When he learns of a Squip, a supercomputer pill that feeds real-time social coaching directly into his mind, he swallows it in hopes of transforming his entire life.
As the Squip's influence grows, Jeremy begins abandoning the people who actually cared about him, especially his best friend Michael Mell, in pursuit of a version of popularity that increasingly costs him his own identity. His arc turns on recognizing what he nearly lost in the process.
Jeremy's role in Be More Chill
Jeremy is the lead role of Be More Chill, present in nearly every scene and carrying the bulk of the show's musical numbers, including much of its narration through song. The role demands a performer with strong comic instincts alongside the ability to sell real emotional stakes as Jeremy's choices spiral.
Audiences, especially the show's large online fan base built years before its Broadway run, remember Jeremy as an unusually relatable avatar for teenage social anxiety, which helped fuel the show's grassroots popularity.
