Broadway compared with the 2024 and 2025 Wicked films
On screen, Glinda gets a song the stage version never had: The Girl in the Bubble, an original Stephen Schwartz number written for Wicked: For Good (2025). That film also turns Wonderful, a duet for the Wizard and Elphaba on stage, into a trio with Glinda.
Kristin Chenoweth, whom Schwartz had in mind while writing the role, originated Glinda on Broadway in 2003 and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Ariana Grande plays her in both films and received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the 2024 film, in which Chenoweth has a cameo as a leading member of the Emerald City Players.
Who is Glinda?
Glinda begins the story as a popular, image conscious young woman at Shiz University, initially at odds with her green skinned roommate Elphaba before the two form an unlikely and deeply important friendship.
