Who is Pippin?

Pippin is a young man, the son of Charlemagne, who wants his life to matter and to feel extraordinary. Guided (and sometimes manipulated) by a troupe of performers led by the Leading Player, he tries on war, politics, romance, and revolution in search of the one great thing that will make his existence feel complete. His journey is framed as a kind of theatrical game, with the ensemble constantly nudging him toward a spectacular, dangerous finale.

What makes Pippin compelling is that his search feels universal. He is not a warrior or a schemer by nature, he is someone asking the very human question of what a meaningful life actually looks like, which keeps the character relatable even as the show around him grows increasingly theatrical and strange.
