Who is Jafar?

Jafar serves as the Sultan's closest advisor while secretly plotting to seize the throne for himself. He is the classic scheming courtier, all flattery and hidden ambition, using his cunning and his access to magic to work toward total control of the kingdom.

His presence drives much of the tension in the story. Every time Aladdin, Jasmine, or the Sultan makes a move toward happiness, Jafar is lurking nearby with a new scheme, which keeps the plot's stakes and pacing lively throughout the show.
