Broadway compared with the 1968 film
Mr. Bumble loses most of his music on screen. The 1968 film cut I Shall Scream, his duet with Widow Corney, and That's Your Funeral, his number with Mr. and Mrs. Sowerberry, leaving him the title song Oliver! and his solo Boy for Sale, in which he tries to sell Oliver. Harry Secombe played Bumble in Carol Reed's film.
Paul Whitsun-Jones originated Mr. Bumble in the 1960 West End production, and Willoughby Goddard played him in the original 1963 Broadway cast.
Who is Mr. Bumble?
Bumble oversees the workhouse where Oliver spends his early, miserable years, and he wields his small amount of authority with exaggerated self-regard.
