Broadway compared with the 2000 film
Broadway's Billy won a Tony three ways: David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, and Kiril Kulish, who rotated the role, shared the 2009 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. In London the role was created by Liam Mower, James Lomas, and George Maguire in rotation. On screen, Billy is Jamie Bell in Stephen Daldry's 2000 film.
The film ends years later with an adult Billy, played by Adam Cooper, dancing the Swan in Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. The musical instead brings an Older Billy on stage in Act 2 for a Swan Lake duet with his younger self, and gives Billy numbers of his own, including Electricity and the Angry Dance.
