The stage Nala gets a storyline the 1994 film lacks. In the new Act 2 number The Madness of King Scar, Scar tries to make the grown Nala his mate. She refuses, announces that she is leaving the Pride Lands, and is sent off with the new song Shadowland.
Heather Headley originated adult Nala on Broadway in 1997, with Kajuana Shuford as Young Nala. In the 1994 animated film, Moira Kelly voiced adult Nala and Niketa Calame the cub. In Jon Favreau's 2019 remake, Beyoncé voiced Nala and Shahadi Wright Joseph the cub, and the role was expanded compared with the 1994 film.
